![]() ![]() There is nothing wrong with reaffirming something. It's like the comments that say "+1 this also happens to me". This happens in all forums regardless of the language. I'm badly programmed.Īnyway, there is no problem with what you say, we just give our opinion based on what you say. When writing or speaking, it's the same, I think I'm writing or saying what I want to say, but actually, without realizing it, I pause and continue a few words later. I read the comments but my brain decides to erase some "parts" of what I read, so I respond without realizing it. Sorry, I have a bit of dyslexia (not exactly) I have as a brain "LAG". Also I don't see why all of you care so much about whether I find it strange or not. I know, it's still a business, especially with all the things attached that *are* sold by different parties. Not in a negative way, just in a "huh, didn't expect that to be here" way. I know Blender is not the only one of its kind on here and of course it doesn't hurt it. For an open source title like Blender Steam provides no real benefits apart from user numbers (which is probably why they did it). It makes sense for apps like Substance Painter because Steam provides them with DRM and a payment system. But it's up to you, of course.īlender on Steam: I think it is a bit strange, yes. You'll probably be watching and reading quite a few tutorials and the UI in 2.8 is different enough that as beginner you will constantly run into issues. If you are just starting out I'd still recommend using 2.79b. This way you can also use both and compare (or switch to 2.79 if something doesn't work in 2.8). ![]() Put it into a completely different folder. That is managed by Steam and you shouldn't change anything there. ![]() I would NOT install it in the Steam directory, though. Blender uses "real" numbers for bigger releases with new features and letters for bugfix releases inbetween. I do like running the Steam version though, it's quite interesting to see how many hours I'm spending inside is not an alpha, it's just the next highest "number" after 2.79. Or should it be installed into a completely different folder location like C:\Program Files\Blender\ ? Or will I lose my configs/themes when Steam auto-updates the folder to the final 2.8? if I were to install the Blender 2.8 build from the link you gave me (thanks btw!) where would I install it to? That's why I wanted to use 2.8 since I don't need stability at the moment and would like to get my Blender configured and ready for the new UI/features when it officially releases. I'm extremely new to Blender (basically just poking around seeing if I'll be able to switch from 3dsmax). ![]() I also would have thought that with all the technology available, uploading builds to Steam would have been pretty trivial and automated. Is having Blender on Steam really that strange? I own several commercial 3D/2D/VR artist applications and even bought the opensource Krita on here (actually, Krita is also quite far behind the latest official version, the dev who updates it on Steam is bankrupt. It's a bit strange that Blender is even on Steam in the first place.
